Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) Satellite Program:
Behavior Analysis is an approach that is scientifically proven to comprehend behavior and the contribution of the environment to these behaviors. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a comprehensive program that is based on the principles of behavior analysis. ABA methods are developed to support individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder or other behavioral or developmental disorders in many ways:
- Teach new skills and behaviors
- Maintain desired behaviors
- Reduce and control interfering behaviors
ABA is the most scientifically approved and widely used method in training children with ASD across all age groups in the World. There are, however, very few trained and certified ABA therapists in Saudi Arabia. Moreover, there are no active training or certification programs in Saudi Arabia or the region. For any ABA training for parents or professionals, there needs to be translation and adaptation of the training curriculum and local training programs, which needs to be linked with international Certifying Organizations to maintain the highest standards. Center for Autism Research (CFAR) is collaborating with university of Nevada Reno (UNR), US to establish a high quality Applied Behavioral Analysis Program in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The aim of this program is to increase the society’s capacity to deliver behavior analytic services to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities by establishing locally operated and self-sustaining graduate training programs in Applied Behavior Analysis working collaboratively with human service agencies wherein student’s practical training needs may be met and their placements upon graduation may be assured.
External support will be needed to achieve this aim. This support will include online instruction and supervision of practical training by external experts for the post-master’s training and supervision.
The training program has started at the Center For Autism Research for BCBA and BCaBA since April 1st, 2014. It is an accredited training program in behavior analysis that offers the academic, theoretical, and practical aspects through distance learning.
